The “Artiste Of The Year” award is unarguably one of the biggest categories in Headies Award.
The category consists of artistes who have made the most impactful music works this year in terms of reach, quality, and consistency.
This year’s category of Headies “Artiste Of The Year” award had Burna Boy, Wizkid, Davido, Mayorkun, and Tiwa Savage nominated.
Burna Boy is no doubt one of Nigeria’s music artistes who shook the industry this year with hits.
Before the release of his Grammy Nominated album, “Twice As Tall“, Burna Boy scored hits with “Wonderful” and “Odogwu” as well as hit collaboration with Master KG on “Jerusalem Remix“.
It is not even debatable that his album “Twice As Tall” is one the best body of works released this year.
Teasing fans with “No Stress” and “Smile” before the release of his “Made In Lagos” album, Wizkid made Headies Artiste of the year category.
“Made In Lagos” had a couple of international collaborations which made it so glaring that the album is just named after Lagos, its contents are of international standard.
The song “FEM“, a controversial prelude to his album, “A Better Time” made Davido one of the most talked-about artistes this year.
The song came in the heat of a superiority battle between him and Burna Boy.
“FEM” also became handy for protesters when politicians tried to talk down on protesters.
Within the Headies year of review, Davido had two albums and a countless number of hits, making him a strong contender in this category.
The Headies “Artiste of The Year” nominees list would have been a flop if Mayorkun had not been on it.
While catching cruise with his God’s gifted talented Mayorkun has unconsciously scored a good number of hit singles and collaborations this year.
If it is compulsory to have a female artiste on this list, Tiwa Savage shouldn’t even be on this list. No Beef!!
There actually another female artiste who owns one of the biggest songs this year. You know her!!
Tiwa Savage probably made this list because of her effort in putting out “Celia” album this year and the international success of the album.
